How much does it cost to join the Y?
Because the Y is an inclusive organization that strives to be affordable to all, we offer Open Doors membership rates based on your income. We believe the opportunity for good health should be available to all people. To learn more, use our rate calculator.
Do you have to be a member to use the swimming pool?
A membership is needed to use the pool on a regular basis, or you may pay a daily-use fee. However, swim lessons are available to anyone in the community for a flat fee. Y members do receive a discount on swim lessons. You also may rent the pools and choose among our pool party packages. Contact a Y near you for more information.
Can I try the Y before joining?
People wanting to try out the YMCA services before joining are welcome to use a free guest pass before joining the Y. Other special promotions may apply for longer periods. Inquire at the Welcome Center at your Y for more information, or download a seven-day pass.
Do you offer discounts for area companies?
We do offer discounts for employees of companies that become a YMCA Healthy Living Partner. There is no cost for the company to become a Healthy Living Partner, although many of our partners do pay part of the monthly rate for their employees. To find out if your company has a corporate membership, view our Healthy Living Partners listing. For more information on how your company can become a Healthy Living Partner, contact Vic Perrin at 816.561.9622 or VicPerrin@KansasCityYMCA.org.

Additional guest visits can be purchased for a nominal fee at the Welcome Center. All guests must provide a photo ID at each visit. Members must be at least 16 years old to sponsor a guest. Health Care Dimensions (HCD) developed the SilverSneakers® Fitness Program over a decade ago, and it has since grown into the largest senior-focused exercise program in the United States. The partnerships between HCD and HMOs allow Medicare-eligible members of these health plans to participate in Y programs at no additional cost

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City celebrated its 150th birthday in 2010. The Y started in London 1844. During our history, the Y has started, nurtured and shared many programs. Organized swim lessons, the game of basketball, Father’s Day and here in Kansas City the Negro League of Baseball all started at a Y.

Yes. As a benefit of your membership you can take advantage of the Wellness Coaching Program, which will provide you a health assessment, fitness orientation, and a personal training session. Additional personal training packages are available for a fee.
