Workout Fears
Have you ever wanted to start exercising and just can’t make yourself take the first step into the gym? Many people feel intimidated or fearful about not knowing what to do, what to wear or how to get started. Let us arm you with the necessary tools to feel comfortable taking that first, second and third step.First, how do you get started?
Find a friend to go into the gym with and start asking questions. Taking a tour and meeting the staff will also help you decide if it is a good fit. The main point is to stop thinking and get going. Ask questions.
Second, what do I wear?
At the YMCA we are a family-friendly facility, and we ask you dress appropriately for kids and adults. The main requirement is safety, so athletic shoes are required. The rest of your attire can be whatever you are comfortable in, but the midsection must be covered. Working out is not a fashion show, so try not to worry about what other people are wearing and remember it’s all about sweating.
Third, where do you start?
The YMCA offers the YFIT program, which is included in every membership. YFIT is a program that allows you to get connected with the YMCA. The sessions include a basic health assessment with a trainer and help with realistic goals. You and the trainer will go over your interests so you can leave the gym with a purpose and a goal specially designed just for you.
Taking the first step can be scary. Let the YMCA partner up with you to shed some fear and start you on your road to wellness.
