Welcome to Platte County Community Center in Platte City. The Platte County Community Centers operated by the YMCA of Greater Kansas City are expanding, thanks to a voter-approved half-cent sales tax to fund Platte County Parks and Recreation.

New amenities opening this summer include:

  • Expanded Child Watch area
  • Full-size gymnasium
  • Indoor walking track
  • New cycle and group exercise studios
  • Expanded cardio equipment area with FitLinxx technology
  • State-of-the-art eight lane competition pool brought to you in partnership with the Platte County R-3 School District
  • New activity pool and resistance walk
  • And so much more
     

This facility also offers FitLinxx- a computerized exercise tracking system that attaches directly to fitness equipment, adding an extraordinary “intelligent” dimension to your workout experience.  The system learns your exercise programs, coaches you through your workout, tracks progress over time, and provides a level of safety and confidence during every exercise. Garry Linn - District Vice President
Garry, a native of central Indiana, holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Sports Science and Fitness Management from Upper Iowa University. He came to the YMCA of Greater Kansas City in 2001 and has also served as a Sports Director, Senior Sports Director and Executive Director. Prior to working at the Y, he was a college professor and coach. For Garry, the best part of his job is being part of an organization that exists to positively impact the lives of the people every day by helping them build confidence, self-esteem and the courage to make a contribution to their community. Garry is a board member for the Recreation Council of Greater Kansas City; a member of Northland Regional Chamber, Parkville Area Chamber, North Kansas City Breakfast Club, Northland Youth Suburban League, Southern Platte Rotary, Vision North Committee and Liberty Area Chamber; a previous Board member of the Parkville Chamber; and a YMCA Challenger Sports Volunteer.

Amanda Mitchell - Aquatics Director
Amanda, a native of Fort Wayne, IN, graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and holds a degree in Public Health with an emphasis on bioterriorism and pandemic influenza. Her previous YMCA experience includes serving as an aquatics director at the Bonner Springs Family YMCA and the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. She also has worked as a pool safety auditor and client manager for Jeff Ellis and Associates. Her passions include teaching lifeguards the importance of aquatics risk management and safety. She is a certified Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard, Swim Lesson Instructor, CPO.

Derrick Wilde - Sports Director
Derrick, a native of Westpahlia, MO, joined the YMCA of Greater Kansas City in 2013. He holds a degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Missouri State University. He has spent most of his career in municipal parks and recreation in the Kansas City area. His passion is positively impacting children through quality youth sports experiences. He attributes his career to values such as teamwork, trust, creativity and sportsmanship that he learned while playing sports his entire life. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, camping and sports with his wife and two sons. He is a certified Parks and Recreation Professional and Youth Sports Administrator.
