Hanson Continues Karate Sessions
The Independence YMCA is starting new karate sessions for all skill levels. The sessions will be taught by Sensei Linda Hanson, the only Certified Natural Defense Tactics Instructor in Missouri. These tactics are the same ones taught to airline personnel since Sept. 11, 2001. Linda has worked for the YMCA for six years and been involved in Martial Arts for 28 years. In that time she has trained in the UK, competed regionally, nationally and internationally. She won a gold medal at the Pan American Martial Arts Games.
Linda will be teaching karate at three different levels:
Beginner - All ages, white belt to orange belt. Children and parents can train together as they learn basic kicking, blocking and punching techniques. Classes will emphasize self-discipline and responsibility while developing strength, flexibility, balance and thinking skills.
Advanced - All ages, green belt to black belt. This level is a continuation from the beginner class. The students will learn more advanced techniques as well as Katas (one is needed for each belt test.)
Sparring - All ages, all ranks. In this class, the students will wear protective gear and spar with each other. This class is highly recommended and uses the techniques learned in the beginner and advanced classes. *All protective gear provided.
