Swim Testing Policy
YMCA of Greater Kansas City Swim Testing Policy
So that children may safely participate in pool activities, the YMCA evaluates the swimming ability of each child before they enter the pool. This allows the YMCA to provide safe guidance to each child and to make sure that the proper support and lifeguarding is available.
- All children, 14 years of age and younger, MUST participate in the evaluation process.
- Children will be identified as “swimmers” or “non-swimmers.”
- To be identified as a “swimmer”, a child must swim 25 yards without assistance OR tread water for 60 seconds without assistance.
- “Swimmers” will receive a GREEN bracelet.
- “Non-swimmers” will receive a RED bracelet.
- All children must wear a bracelet each time they enter the pool.
Children, at the request of parents or YMCA staff, may be re-evaluated at any time.
