Health and Wellness Director Qualifies for Pan Am Games in Weightlifting
The YMCA of Greater Kansas City congratulates Sam Philpot, health and wellness director at Quality Hill YMCA, who recently took first place in the 105+ kilogram weight division in the 2010 National Masters Weightlifting Championships in New York. His performance qualified him to compete in the Pan Am weightlifting championships to be held in Montreal in June 2010.
The events in which Sam competes are Olympic lifting. Although Sam has been powerlifting for 20 years, he did not begin competing in Olympic lifting until about 18 months ago.
In that relatively short time, he's won five meets, two state titles, and placed second in the American National Weightlifting Championships in York, PA, in November 2009. In addition to all that he recently came in first place at the National Masters Weightlifting Championships.
He also recently trained a personal training client to compete in their first Olympic weightlifting competition where the client placed second.
These Olympic lifting accolades add to many titles Sam earned over 20 years of powerlifting. His powerlifting achievements include more than 10 state titles, more than 20 regional titles, 15 open championships with numerous state, regional, national and world records.
