Make a Difference by Volunteering as a Challenger Buddy

Want to make a difference in someone's life? Volunteer for the YMCA Challenger program for kids with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities.

There are almost 30,000 kids in the Kansas City Metropolitan area with a disability, and the YMCA is only one of a handful of organizations that have programs year round.

YMCA Challenger Programs are fulfilling a need for families with kids and teens with special needs. At the heart of the YMCA Challenger program are our many volunteers and buddies.The program brings kids with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities together with volunteer “buddies” who provide assistance and words of encouragement. This is a truly rewarding experience for both the players and the buddies. The best part is that buddies free up the parents, who can sit in the bleachers and cheer for all the children.
